Kellanova - Pringles

How Pringles cut onsite water use by 50% through industrial reuse

Challenge

Kellanova’s Pringles production facility in Mechelen faced increasing pressure to reduce water consumption in a water-stressed region. Rising water costs, stricter discharge requirements and limited space for upgrading the existing wastewater treatment plant made water reuse a strategic priority. The company aimed to reduce water consumption by 30% by 2030.

Solution

Pantarein Water developed a compact, containerised wastewater treatment plant incorporating BLUE FOOT‘s backwashable IPC® flat sheet ultrafiltration membranes. With 24 membrane modules arranged in eight stacks, the MBR system enables reliable filtration and supports onsite water reuse within the limited available footprint.

Results

The Mechelen facility reduced its annual water consumption from 400 million litres in 2015 to 180 million litres in 2025, saving 220 million litres per year. This represents a 55% reduction, exceeding Kellanova’s original 30% target and contributing enough savings to meet the group’s global water-saving targets.
